About the project
01. The Context
The Challenge The primary objective was to solve a complex architectural problem: how to maintain a unified global identity while allowing distinct sub-brands (LUXE, Healthcare, Expo) the visual space to speak to specialised high-tier markets. The legacy system was too rigid to adapt to these niche sectors, resulting in a loss of brand resonance in premium markets.
The Strategy I developed and led the "Hybrid Branded House" strategy—a design framework that balances a core master brand with flexible, sector-specific visual identities. This allowed M&I to transition from a singular entity to a master of multiple domains, ensuring each sub-brand could leverage parent equity while maintaining its own industry-specific authority.
02. The Execution
Internal Infrastructure & Governance To scale a global brand, you need more than a PDF style guide; you need a living ecosystem. I built and managed the M&I Brand Portal to serve as the internal "Single Source of Truth." This centralised hub ensured 100% design alignment across internal departments, providing the infrastructure for high-speed execution.
Typographic Consistency: I established M&I’s core typeface, Circular, as the fundamental "red thread" across the entire portfolio. By varying styles and weights, we maintained a unified DNA while allowing for distinct tonal shifts.
Sector-Specific Dialects: To distinguish high-tier markets, I introduced secondary heading typefaces for LUXE and Healthcare. This provided the "visual shorthand" necessary for luxury and clinical sectors without abandoning the master brand's structural roots.
Internal Governance: By centralising all assets within the Brand Portal, I eliminated version-control issues and streamlined the production pipeline for internal event teams. This moved the design process from a manual, folder-based workflow to a controlled, system-led environment.
03. The Result
The Outcome By structuring M&I as a Branded House, we built massive brand equity in the "M&I" name while creating specific pathways for industry growth. This strategic foundation allowed us to launch new sectors, such as M&I Healthcare, with immediate market trust and recognition. The result is a future-proof brand architecture that can continue to expand without diluting the core identity.
